our COSMETOLOGY curriculum

what will you learn in the cosmetology curriculum? —

Aveda Arts & Sciences Institute Covington students learn how to be beauty pros with the Aveda philosophy and line of products. You’ll use our high-performance, plant-based Aveda products during the practical, hands-on training in makeup, hair, and nail care. Our Cosmetology program is designed to fully prepare you for all aspects of the Louisiana state cosmetology exam and beyond, so that you hit the ground running for an exciting career!

The Covington campus’s Cosmetology program consists of 1,500 hours, divided into 500 hours for theoretical study and 1,000 hours of hands-on training. The vast majority of your training—more than 1,000 hours—focuses on hair. The rest address other beauty topics such as skincare and manicuring, as well as state law and rules, safety and sanitation, and relevant science.

As part of your training, you’ll get to work in our state-of-the-art student salon in our innovative, green-certified facility. Real-life clients visit to enjoy treatments ranging from haircuts and special event hair to makeup looks or relaxing pedicures. This enables students to practice both technical and customer service skills while also gaining confidence in a salon environment. You’ll use the Aveda line of products in your services and practice your sales and interpersonal skills at the same time.

Your learning won’t be confined to everyday treatments, either. Aveda Arts & Sciences Institute Covington students get to work at special events and in group settings as well. We partner with the Special Little Miss Pageant and with the Junior League of Greater Covington on Project Prom, as well as provide free treatments for teachers or nurses during National Nurses Week and Teacher Appreciation Week. Our culture emphasizes taking care of the earth and our communities, and our students appreciate the opportunity to be socially responsible.
