what will you learn in the cosmetology curriculum? —
Our industry-leading Cosmetology program combines 500 hours of essential classroom theory with 1,000 hours of hands-on salon experience to build your confidence and get you ready to pass your licensing exams and start your new beauty career. You’ll cover a wide range of topics, from hair cutting, coloring, and texture services to nail care, makeup application, business development, retail knowledge, and the art of gaining and retaining clients.
Hair is the cornerstone of cosmetology, and our program focuses on essential techniques such as hair cutting, coloring, styling, waving, wigs, and shampooing. However, we know you want more than just the basics—and we’ve worked hard to create a curriculum that delivers.
Alongside hair essentials, our Cosmetology program also covers beauty topics such as skin care, facials, massage, and manicuring, as well as other must-know subjects including state board rules, safety and sanitation, and client consultations.
In the final phase of your cosmetology training here at our Baton Rouge campus, students concentrate on mastering next-level precision trends in our newly renovated open-plan salon. This supervised experience helps to ensure you’re ready to launch your new career with the latest techniques already under your belt.
There’s also plenty of opportunity to practice your new skills with our extracurricular activities, including charity drives, fashion shows, and contests!

How long does it take?
The Cosmetology program at our newly renovated Baton Rouge campus takes 1,500 hours to complete, over 12 to 18 months. There are 30 hours of training per week, from 9 am to 5:30 pm, Wednesdays through Saturdays. You can also enjoy a one-hour break for lunch each day, which gives you time to take a break and tuck into something delicious at one of our local eateries.
