At our Houston campus, we offer two cosmetology pathways that prepare students for diverse and successful careers in the beauty industry.

what will you learn in the cosmetology curriculum? —
Both of our Cosmetology programs (the 1,000-hour as well as the 1,500-hour program) fulfill the requirements of the Texas cosmetology board requirements for training. Both programs are popular with students, depending on your career goals.
While our 1,000-hour Cosmetology program is condensed, students gain a firm grounding in cosmetology education, with 800 hours dedicated to hair cutting, styling, coloring, textures, and more. Additionally, you’ll encounter vital topics like business skills, professional development, salon management, state board laws, and health and safety. The remaining 200 hours are spent on skincare and nail care, covering a range of topics and techniques to help ensure you’re ready to launch your new career as a licensed cosmetologist.
In our 1,500-hour Cosmetology program, students gain a great deal more experience across all of these core areas of hair care, nail care, and skin care. With the additional hours, students are exposed to a wide variety of singular opportunities, including:
- Introduction to guest speakers and leaders in the beauty industry during Industry Days
- Participation in coursework about industry pay structures and how to grow
- Extra time to develop your individual artistic skills with additional hair cut and color education
- Editorial styling sessions with photoshoots to practice runway/fashion and print publication sessions
In both programs, students dive into theory as well as practice skills through extensive hands-on practice. Beyond discovering your talent for the various beauty disciplines, you’ll gain a well-rounded education that includes the toolkit of what you’ll need to be successful in beauty, including business development, retail knowledge, and skills for gaining and retaining clients.

How long does it take?
There are two program options available for cosmetology students at our Houston campus: one is a 50-week, 1,500-hour pathway, and the other is a 34-week, 1,000-hour option. As a result, students can pursue an academic schedule that best aligns with their career goals, timeline, and scheduling needs.
With each Cosmetology program, you’ll be in 30 hours of training a week. Two schedules are available. The “A-side” schedule runs Monday through Wednesday, 9 am – 8 pm. The “B-side” schedule runs Thursday through Saturday, from 9 am – 8 pm (8 am – 7 pm on Saturdays). There is a one-hour break for lunch each day.
What’s needed to enroll?
To enroll in either of the cosmetology programs at our Houston campus, you must meet the following requirements:
Age: 16 years (note – you must be 17 years old to sit for the licensing exams)
Education: High school diploma or equivalent
Other Requirements: Pay a $100 non-refundable application fee, complete an interview, and submit a letter of recommendation, proof of U.S. citizenship or lawful status, and a copy of your social security card.
