HURRICANE LAURA

Wednesday August 26, 2020 at 8:15 AM CDT

Hurricane Laura is continuing to track towards a landfall late tonight or early tomorrow morning in the area of Southwest Louisiana near the Texas border as a Category 3 hurricane. While we do not anticipate serious effects in the New Orleans, Hammond, or Baton Rouge areas, this is a major storm that we feel will affect operations in the Lafayette and Houston areas.

   Will CLOSE EARLY at 3:00 PM Today, Wednesday August 26th
   and REMAIN CLOSED Tomorrow, Thursday August 27th

We encourage everyone along the gulf coast to review your emergency plans and make sure you are using the time we have to prepare in case there is a need to react to events, particularly for our team members in Lafayette and Houston.

The safety of our students and staff is our primary concern. All students and staff are advised to monitor local conditions when making their decisions about attendance. Please maintain safe practices in regards to driving if you are in an area affected by heavy rains. Do not attempt to drive through flooded streets or roadways. Please notify the school immediately if conditions require you to alter your school schedule.

Good morning. Marco has been downgraded to a Tropical Storm, and is currently tracking along the Louisiana Gulf Coast towards Texas.  At this point, it appears that by the time it makes landfall Marco will have weakened even further to a Tropical Depression.

Additionally, we are aware that many schools will be closed today. If this creates a challenge for you in terms of child care, please notify the school.

In regards to Tropical Storm Laura, landfall is not forecast to occur until sometime early Thursday morning.  The track is still uncertain as well as the overall forecast.  We are continuing to monitor this storm closely and will update you as conditions become more clear.
