For Aveda Arts graduate Gracyn, a career in cosmetology has always been about more than creating beautiful hair—it’s been about connection, continued growth, and investing in her craft.
Since graduating from the Cosmetology program in 2018 from Aveda Arts & Sciences Institute Covington, Gracyn has built a career as an independent stylist, salon suite owner, and educator, proving that a strong foundation and a passion for learning can open countless doors in the beauty industry.
Finding a Passion for Hair Color
One of Gracyn’s favorite memories from her time at Aveda Arts was the moment she discovered her love for color theory.
“I remember one of my educators being able to communicate how hair color connects to the color wheel in the most perfect way for me to understand it,” she shared. “It clicked.”
That moment sparked a passion that would become a major part of her career. Today, Gracyn specializes in color, has been awarded Northshore’s Best Colorist for three years, and has continued to expand her expertise through advanced education, including becoming certified in color analysis.

Building a Career Behind the Chair
Beyond technical skills, Gracyn says Aveda Arts helped shape the way she approaches the guest experience.
“Aveda Arts taught me the importance of community and genuine customer service,” she said. “That has led me to have a valuable perspective on how to take care of my guests and maintain a loyal clientele.”
Now approaching two years as an independent stylist and salon suite owner, Gracyn says one of her proudest accomplishments has been learning how to build a career on her own terms.
“I’m proud of learning how to stand on my own two feet,” she said. “Investing in myself and putting my education before everything.”
Advice for Future Beauty Professionals
For current cosmetology students and anyone considering a future in beauty, Gracyn’s advice is simple:
“Find your voice. Invest in yourself. Invest in your education.”
Whether it’s behind the chair or in the classroom, she believes growth comes from staying curious and continuing to learn.
What’s Next?
As Gracyn continues growing her career, she’s stepping further into another passion: education.
“I’ve been leaning more into the education side of the industry,” she shared. “Creating more education and giving back to the hair community.”
From discovering her passion for color as a student to helping inspire the next generation of beauty professionals, Gracyn’s journey is a reminder that a career in beauty is always evolving, and there’s always more to create.
