We would like to congratulate Matthew Nelson on being Aveda Arts & Sciences Institute Lafayette’s March Student of the Month!

We asked Matthew a few questions about the start of his journey in the beauty industry. Read below!

Why Aveda?

“It is the top school to get real time experience on actual clients plus a full line up of products as well as a relaxing environment.”

Why Hair?

“It is one of the few things where I can be creative and artistic as well as making money for a career.”

Favorite skill?

“My Favorite skill would be cutting hair mainly for the precision you can get and the different ways to texturize hair.”

After Aveda?

“I will be graduating April 9th so I am hoping to work at a salon where I can continue to improve and perfect my practice.”

Advice for peers:

“Never give up, keep smiling no matter the situation. Always face the dawn of a new day, which means to always look to tomorrow not yesterday. Remember to face forward and reach for the future not the past. Above all else, never bring drama from outside the workplace because that will just make work as miserable as possible. So just smile and be happy you’re doing what you want to do! Never give in to temptation of anger or stress, just keep smiling and leave the stress in the past.”
