We are excited to recognize Dennika Warren as Aveda Arts & Sciences Institute Atlanta’s May Student of the Month! Dennika grew up in Bermuda, where she used her talent and passion for beauty to give back to her community. Read about her journey below.
“My name is Dennika Warren. I’m a 29 year old single mother of a beautiful 3 year old girl.
I was born and raised in beautiful Bermuda, where I was taught how to French braid by my mother at the age of 5.
Growing up, my mother always taught me the importance of giving back to the community. As a young girl, I would regularly volunteer to do elderly hair. I would also braid and style hair for less fortunate students for their school proms.
At the age of 20, I graduated from Halifax Nova Scotia in Fitness and Lifestyle Management. Due to a bad accident I had, I changed back to hairstyling. It’s been an amazing experience being an international student learning new cuts, styles, and color. My educators have taught me a lot and have been a part of why my education has turned into a passion. I am excited to take what I’ve learned and use it to prepare for a successful future in beauty.
I chose to do hair because I love to make people smile. I am creative and I love to make a difference.
I chose Aveda because I wanted to learn more about the different types of naturally derived products they use. I wanted to understand how to formulate color and learn new cuts and styles.
My two favorite products are Brilliant and Smooth Infusion. I used Brilliant in my hair as a child growing up. It protects against frizz, fly-aways, and keeps a great shine! Smooth Infusion is my other favorite because it’s true to its meaning. It smooths and reduces frizz no matter what texture hair.
My daughter is my biggest inspiration. Being a single mom pushes me to continue putting my best foot forward and always putting God first.”
